OPPORTUNITIES FOR INTERNATIONAL SHORT TERM VOLUNTEERS
RESEARCH VOLUNTEER PROGRAM AT CCB GHANZI RESEARCH CAMP
CCB offers opportunities for individuals to assist first hand with cheetah conservation within Botswana. The Ghanzi Research Camp is the base for the CCB research team and also includes the Tiisano Education Bush Camp where CCB hosts school groups and other conservation education workshops. The research team works to assess the status, distribution and behavior of cheetah focusing on areas where there is potential conflict with humans.
Volunteers will be based in the Ghanzi Research Camp and will work on a variety of tasks dependent on the current work plan and the volunteer’s skills and interests. Duties may include:
• Monitoring and tracking the activities and movement patterns cheetah and other wildlife within the district
• Assisting with the running of education bush camps and other conservation workshops
• Assisting in visits to local farmers to discuss methods of predator control and livestock management
• Assisting in the capture and release of cheetah
• Prey analysis of cheetah
• Conducting various biodiversity surveys
• Data collection and input
• Camp maintenance
Please note that CCB does not hold captive cheetah at the research base nor can we guarantee close contact with wild cheetah in the field.
Placements will be for 1 to 3 months and monthly volunteering fees will apply. A month visit with CCB costs approximately $2500 (USD), which includes accommodation, and transport. Volunteers will be expected to cover their own travel costs to and from Maun, Botswana and for the purchase and preparation of their own meals. For more information or for bookings please consult theWorking Abroad website.
The volunteer fee helps CCB to cover accommodation, utilities, administration and transport costs. CCB is a non profit organisation and all funds raised go directly to the running of the organisation and the conservation of Botswana's cheetah. In addition to the volunteer fee and travel costs, volunteers can expect to spend approximately $150-300 USD per month on food and toiletries.
Volunteer Fees are payable to CCB via electronic bank transfer, to be received no later than 28 days prior to the agreed start of the proposed placement. Volunteers must provide adequate medical insurance cover for the duration of their stay and must provide proof of cover before arrival
We currently have capacity for two international volunteers in Ghanzi (March-May and August-October only). As placements are extremely limited, we recommend that applications are submitted as soon as possible.
